Just throwing this up here from Otakon. I don't have a single picture of this costume up here so it'll have to do.
I mentioned that I was doing Jiraiya from Persona 4, right? I did Jiraiya from Persona 4. Now people who complain that I only do closet cosplays can shut right the hell up!
This was... a lot of work. Like, a lot. And I'm still really mad at this stupid costume for sucking. The head is completely out of proportion, especially on my frame, the gloves don't connect to the arms like I wanted, the jumpsuit is too big (originally it was big to make me look more manly, but it catches on my hips and makes me look hideously disproportionate instead) and even with three sports bras on you can still see the line of my boob. Also that helmet is extremely claustrophobic, something I didn't realize I was until I was wearing a hot headpiece with poor visibility and my handler wandered off without me. The scarf is also off; it ended up having to wrap two or three times around the helmet instead of one and so it dangled really short in the back instead of long and flowing. What I'm trying to say is that it kind of hurts to look at it.
But I'll be god damned if I don't have something to show for all the hours of painting, stitching, sanding, sculpting and mounting I had to do, even if I'm not happy with the product. At least it was a thing I did.
Fun fact: see how I'm almost as tall as my friend in this picture? Yeah, I'm wearing five inch Go-Go boots and my head is only about half as big as the massive helmet piece. I'm really freaking short and this is probably the closest we've ever come to being able to look each other in the eye.
Jiraiya is me.
